Leadership is an important role in an organization; hence a good leader can use his or her influences effetely to help the organization to keep in the right direction toward success. The leader position is to provide general direction to employees what should they do to achieve goals.
How to inform those directions to the employee is a question to solve. I watch a TED talk by Simon Sinek ‘how does leadership inspire action’. He used a simple model to explain it using the golden circle that containing three words from outside to inside, What, How, and Why. This simple model tells me how the leader should members in the organization know what they should do, how will they do and why they do. By start thinking and express the goal behind the work, the ‘why’ of the product can help the organization to succeed . The other TED talks of him, why good leaders make you feel safe, I consider his opinion in this speech is important as well. He suggests the leader should providing safe feelings to employees that can help the organization to succeed. The leader can truly care for their members can improve productivity and gain people’s hearts. Make the company easy to manage, and the relationship between leader and employee will become positive, good for the organization to grow, especially in those hard times like economic recession .
Regarding leadership style, I think this should depend on the industries that the organization is in. Laissez-faire is really good for the creative industry since it allows the employee to have their own idea or direction which is good for content creation. Employees won’t have to deal with limit themselves to comply leader’s mind while at work. And there are many advantages for the creative industry to use the laissez-faire style of leadership. I found an article from St. Thomas University talking about this leadership style, they state it allow professions to work effectively and challenge them to take responsivity for their works, and it motivates people to perform well and help them to make decision that normally organization would not be supported to do so (Check out the Article!).
For other industries, I believe the leader should regulate the employee following the transactional leader style, provide clear expectations. Reward when the employee meets the requirement. Provide clear expectations tell employees what they should achieve, with the reason behind it. Therefore, employees can know what to do. A Reward system shall be created for some kind of positive enforcement to the employee that maximizes the efficiency of the organization.
In the end, I will say for my ideal organization is to use both transformational leadership styles like Laissez-Faire and transactional leadership styles depending on the nature of the work and department work style.
